Consulting on SNH managed NNRs

In 1999 the Scottish Government directed all its departments to engage the public more closely in the management of government-owned land. SNH made its commitment in 'Openness in Ownership' (1999) and agreed to consult on plans for National Nature Reserves (NNRs).

We now produce 'new style' planning documents more suited to engaging a wider audience and consulting people about the future management of these special places. We seek people's views through consultation on the Reserve Proposals.

We have used various consultation techniques tailored specifically to each Reserve (as they are all different) - public meetings, guided walks on the Reserve, open days, correspondence, press releases and information on the web site.

Consultation for each Reserve Proposal lasts 12 weeks.

We write a report summarising the results of the consultation and the changes we will make to the Reserve Proposals as a result of public feedback. The updated Reserve Proposals then become the Reserve Plan.

Current NNR consultations

We are not currently consulting on the any Reserves.
